My old friend Bernie passed a few days ago. The news was
heartbreaking and devastating. Bernie and I worked together in
radio and while life has taken us in different directions, Bernie
remained one of greatest people I have ever known.
A world without Bernard Spigner - it truly won't be the same. His
birthday was Christmas Day, so perfectly Bernie. Ask anyone who
knew him. He was kind, bright, compassionate, honest and
beautiful. He was a gentleman with an uplifting word for
everyone. His daily outgoing messages were famous - Always
personally tailored for the day. None ever the same. We all
think about those and how they could change the way you felt.
Bernie's deepest personal joy was meeting his wife Deborah and having
their son Robbie.
At times like this, we all reflect on our own mortality.
Bernie's time was cut short and it is a reminder of how "no one
knows the hour or the day." I also thought of how we
may never realize the profound effect we can have on each other's
lives.
I found your post to be so
appropriate. I met Bernie when he was at WCTC and I am so grateful I
did. He was a wonderful caring man and I learned a great deal from
him. Thanks for your post--it was very nice to see.

The smallest kindness that we think goes unnoticed
remains burned in peoples heart's. That's how I always thought
of and will remember Bernie. He did the smallest things that
brought the greatest joy.
I'm sad today, but I smile too at the memory of a magnificent man, who
knew how to love, encourage, give of himself and share his joy without
any expectation. His life was a reflection of all he held dear.
Bernie is survived by his wife Deborah and their 2 year old son
Robbie. His friends and family have set up the Robbie Spigner
College Fund, c/o Costello-Runyon Funeral Home, 568 Middlesex Ave.,
Metuchen, NJ 08840.
Bernie Spigner, 1955 -2007, Husband, Father, Brother, Cousin,
Friend, Teacher and so much more.
